![]() “This exciting project will change the look of one of the busiest intersections in Wyoming and will create a welcoming and inviting entrance to the city of Rock Springs,” stated Jenissa Meredith, Executive Director of Sweetwater County Joint Travel and Tourism Board. Construction of this project will begin in April of 2017 with completion scheduled for May of 2017. The Rocky Mountain Power Foundation grant funds will be applied to the cost of the materials needed to landscape the area, such as, trees, grasses, and shrubs. This enhancement project is a joint venture between the Rock Springs Community Chest and the Rock Springs Beautification Committee, which is made up of partners from Sweetwater County Travel and Tourism, the City of Rock Springs, the Rock Springs Chamber of Commerce, Wyoming Business Council, Downtown Rock Springs/URA, and Western Wyoming Community College. These funds will support beautification and landscaping efforts near the welcome sign located at the Dewar Drive exit in Rock Springs. ![]() September 29 th, 2016 – The Rock Springs Beautification Committee, a committee of the Sweetwater County Travel and Tourism Board, is pleased to announce it has received a $5,000 grant from the Rocky Mountain Power Foundation. The biggest – Great Divide Basin is located to the south of the Sweetwater River.Receives Rocky Mountain Power Foundation Grant The Wyoming Basin borders the Continental Divide between the eastern and western mountains and comprises of smaller mountains and relatively flat basins. The state also has numerous man-made reservoirs, with the largest ones located on the North Platte River, to the south of Casper, and the northeast of Riverton on the Bighorn River. ![]() The significant rivers of Wyoming include the Belle Fourche, Bighorn, Green, North Platte, Powder, Snake, Sweetwater, and Yellowstone rivers. This dividing line runs from northwestern Canada to the south along the crests of the Rocky Mountains of Wyoming, and then to the south into Mexico, where it follows the peaks of the Sierra Madre Occidental. The Continental Divide is an imaginary line that indicates the absolute highest points of land, where on either side, some of the rivers will flow downhill or in east or west. Situated in the extreme northwestern part of the state is the country’s oldest and largest national park – the Yellowstone National Park. The north-central part of the state is dominated by the Big Horn Mountains, while the rugged Laramie Mountains cover the southern and southeastern landscapes. The Wind River mountains situated in the west-central part of the state, include Wyoming’s highest point – the Gannett Peak, which rises to an elevation of 13,810ft (4,210m). Over a dozen mountain ranges of the Rocky Mountains cover the western part of the state, including the snow-capped Absaroka, Grand Tetons, and Wind River mountains. The state’s lowest point is located in the extreme northeastern corner along the Belle Fourche River, at an elevation of 3,099ft. ![]() The western margins of the Great Plains are marked by several mountain ranges.
